Your home should be your sanctuary, a place where you can relax. And it shouldn’t be stuck in another decade of home design. Here are a few ways to bring your home décor into the 21st century.
Use Patterned Wallpaper
Wall décor is a great way to spruce up your home. A good place to start is using patterned wallpaper. You can install it on one wall, or all of them. If you choose to do it on a singular wall, it is an accent wall, meant to bring attention to it. It will draw eyes to it immediately. Often, accent walls can even have different textures, not just different colors or designs. And if you choose to apply patterned wallpaper on multiple or all walls in a room, it will really make the room pop.
Install Automated Doors
The doors in your home may have been installed a long time ago, but can be easily updated with an automatic door opener installed on your patio doors. Automatic doors create an easy flow into and out of your house, and can make life easier for certain family members. The Autoslide by EVO Products sliding door system has features for pets, such as doormat and dog tags that trigger the doors. It also has features for people with disabilities, including remotes and motion sensors.
Overhaul Your Lighting
One thing that can really brighten your home, but is often forgotten, is lighting. Lighting can enhance the home, and changing the type or location can improve any room. One new change is adding tech lighting. Tech lighting involves multiple kinds of lights, including LED lights. LED stands for light-emitting diode, and produces light more efficiently, a whopping 90% versus regular incandescent light bulbs. These light bulbs not only change the lighting, but also help the environment.
For true tech lighting, look into smart light bulbs. They can be paired with an Amazon Alexa, phone apps, your voice, and more. No more dreaming of the day you can just clap and the lights will go off. Now you can say “Alexa, turn off the lights”, and these light bulbs will turn off. These can be purchased at stores, and online at various price points. Plus, using apps on your phone, you can turn them off remotely, helpful in case you forget to turn a light off before you leave home.
Retro futurism is one of the hardest aspects to incorporate into your home on this list, but can look fantastic. It involves attributing to the era the house was built in. For example, if the house is from the Victorian era, you could give it some updates that attest to this era. This may involve adding crown molding, or a tasteful chair rail in your home. If your house was built in the 1980’s, you could add a pop of neon in a room with some throw pillows. You could also add some brass molding, such as on a bookshelf.
Regardless of which of these recommendations you implement, giving your house a facelift will make you feel more at home, and bring your home into the 21st century.
