Many people love a good sci-fi or superhero movie. The action, drama, excitement, and futuristic technology draws the crowds in. And there are lots of common elements across the franchises and storylines. From autonomous vehicles to bionic limbs, here are a few modern inventions that you can buy from some of your favorite science fiction, superhero, and action movies.

Autonomous Vehicles

Autonomous vehicles, cars that drive themselves, are seen in many sci-fi movies, such as Total Recall or Minority Report. It gives the characters the ability to concentrate on other tasks, while going to their destination. Today, companies like Tesla, Ford, Intel, and GM are in the market of creating autonomous vehicles, and are already innovating and testing them. Some companies, such as Uber, are already employing them. While it’s unlikely that all cars will be fully autonomous anytime soon, you can look into self-driving cars, or smaller features such as cruise-control and self-parking cars.

Bionic and Prosthetic Limbs

Whether you are a fan of Marvel’s The Winter Soldier or DC’s Cyborg, odds are you have seen a character with a bionic limb that they use in combat and everyday life. In 2021, bionic and prosthetics are more real than ever. People can print prosthetics from 3-D printers, and doctors fit them onto patients in hospitals all over the world. Prosthetic legs can support body weight, and some prosthetic hands are able to write or hold onto objects.

Automated Sliding Doors

If you’re a fan of Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker, then you probably have seen the ships they inhabit open and close doors as people walk in and out. And you can feel just like these characters in your own home now with automated sliding doors. These doors open as you approach, and can also be controlled using push buttons, dog tags, and phone apps. May the force be with you.

Digital Billboards

In sci-fi movies, digital billboards are often a sign of an apocalyptic or futuristic society. They flash informative messages or advertise innovative products. But today, you can see them as you drive to work, school or your favorite restaurant. Some change a few times a minute, others operate just like regular billboards, with only one consistent advertisement. Plus, they’re easier to maintain, as once the technology is installed, it can be controlled remotely.

Touch Displays

We’ve all seen wealthy characters like Tony Stark with technology that is a touch screen that they use throughout the missions. Tables that the characters use as a massive computer, phones that project holograms, the possibilities in sci-fi and superhero worlds are endless. Some of this technology we use everyday, such as in touchscreen phones, tablets, and computers. Even restaurants have touch screen menus on tables, and some McDonalds have large touch screen menus inside to order from. Hopefully, these technologies will feature holograms too one day.

AI is artificial intelligence, and it learns from you as you continue to use it. In the Avengers, there are many AI characters that are brought to life. Jarvis, Friday, and Vision to name a few, all with different personalities and abilities. Starting in 2014 with the ingenious invention of the Amazon Alexa, people began to have AI throughout their home, that respond to their voice or text commands. They learn your voice, commands, and preferences.

From artificial intelligence to automated doors, these technologies are being researched and worked on everyday for household use. Creating and mastering all this new technology is an exciting prospect, one you can look forward to seeing expanded in the years to come.
